About Cassandra Chessum
Born into a family of antiques dealers and textile designers, it is no surprise that my earliest memories involve trailing after my parents as they searched for antiques in Chelsea and sourced textiles from far and wide. It’s fair to say that interior design is in my blood. For as long as I can remember, I have always been interested in architecture, design and interiors. After buying and renovating an 18th century thatched cottage by the coast, I decided to turn my passion into a career.
I have over 15 years experience working in sustainability and the built environment, working on projects related to climate change, energy, water and responsible sourcing. Throughout my career to date, I have gained an excellent set of transferable skills, which makes me a shrewd negotiator and excellent project manager. This ensures that I am well placed to complete interior design projects (to time and to budget), as well as negotiating competitive prices with suppliers / trades people.
Outside of work, I am a devoted mother to two gorgeous children. I love swimming and sailing, as well as Pilates and meditation.

Process
Every project is different, so the specific services required will vary depending on the brief. However, there are generally three key stages to create your dream home or business space.
Consultation & Brief
Our service starts with visiting you at your home or business space. The main objective will be to fully understand the project brief and evaluate the space you want to transform, as well as listening to your ideas about the style and atmosphere you would like to create. We will also set out to establish the specific interior design services you require to make your dream home or business space a reality.
Design Process
Once we have a detailed brief, we will then focus on the design process, delivering a range of interior design services and property styling solutions for your home or business space. This will often include a combination of 2D and 3D visualisations, mood boards, sample selections, elevations, drawings and room plans, as well as a detailed breakdown of products and their associated costs.
Project Management
CCID can help make your dream space a reality. We offer full interior design project management services, ensuring the highest standards. This can involve sourcing art and antiques, as well as furniture and fabric. We can also help to source the best tradespeople and craftspeople for your project, as well as staging and styling your dream property.
Suppliers
Over the years, we have compiled an impressive list of contacts across the country and the world, which are on speed dial. Our suppliers include local artisan producers, as well as well-known brands in interior design, which are synonymous with quality and style.
With access to these exclusive suppliers, we can help you source a range of products and services that will totally transform the space you live or work in. Given our strong relationships with these suppliers, we can secure competitive prices, as well as ensuring items are delivered on time.
Fabric & Textiles
We source beautiful fabrics and textiles in a range of colours, patterns, textures, weaves, fibres and fabric weights, as well as offering practical advice on the curtains, blinds, cushions and soft furnishings that are best for your space.
Lighting
Light is absolutely crucial in interior design. We can help to source stunning interior and exterior lighting solutions for your home and business space, ensuring all the fixtures meet the relevant safety requirements for each room / space.
Art
Whether you are looking for an abstract piece of art to act as the focal point for your living room or a set of Andy Warhol limited edition skateboards for your teenage son’s bedroom, we can source unique and original pieces of art.
Antiques & Collectables
If you like antiques and period pieces (which could perhaps sit alongside more contemporary or classic interiors), we can source a range of antiques and collectables, ranging from stunning Art Deco cocktail cabinets to mid-century modern dining chairs.
Up-Cycling & Reclaimed Goods
We LOVE the world we live in and we are BIG fans of up-cycling and using reclaimed goods. We can source distinctive items from architectural salvage yards, as well as up-cycling items, making them truly unique.
Home Accessories
We can source beautiful accessories from across the world to create a wow factor. Many home accessories can also be sourced from the high street and can be relatively inexpensive to purchase. You just need to know where to look!
Tradespeople & Craftspeople
Whether you’re looking for architects or structural engineers, carpenters or plumbers, we have a list of fantastic tradespeople and craftspeople that could help turn your dream home or business space into a reality.
Sustainability Policy
We are passionate about sustainable interior design. Therefore, sustainability is integral to everything we do at CCID. We are 100% committed and dedicated to sustainability. We regularly review our processes and projects (from initiation to completion) to ensure that they enhance the environment, health and well-being of our clients, suppliers and staff.
Projects
We are very proud of our proven track record and excellent experience in this area. One notable project is a biophilic house in South Oxfordshire, which is going to feature on the next series of Grand Designs. As well as benefiting from green energy solutions, such as solar panels, the passive house will also boast high-tech bio-dynamic lighting and interior green living walls, designed to promote health and well-being. At CCID, we strongly believe that sustainability is not just for the “few”. This is why we have integrated sustainability throughout, so it is a recurring theme throughout all the projects we undertake.
Products
The majority of the products we recommend and source for our clients are sustainable. For example, the fabrics are often made from natural (sometimes certified organic) fibres or are comprised of recycled yarns. They are also fully recyclable. The paint ranges tend to be water-based, vegan and solvent free with low levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The application of some paints actually reduces carbon dioxide and eliminates toxins. We are also big fans of up-cycling. So, we often source reclaimed goods from architectural salvage yards, as well as up-cycling items to make them unique.
People & Suppliers
At CCID, we are also committed to ethical trade and business practices. All our people are expected to deal with everyone they meet ethically, behaving in an honest, transparent and open fashion. We are also committed to sourcing products from suppliers who have a similar ethos. Whilst it is not feasible (given the size of our company) to visit every supplier to inspect their operations and processes, we do regularly review suppliers’ corporate sustainability / responsibility policies and performance. We also check to see (where relevant) that suppliers have signed up to the most robust leading environmental and social certification schemes.
Studio
It is important that we lead by example and that our studio is as sustainable as possible. Managing waste is essential and we have adopted the ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ approach. We have removed all single use plastics in the studio and through our efforts to reduce, reuse and recycle, we aim to ensure that none of our waste is sent to landfill. All our IT equipment is reused or recycled, as are all redundant mobile phones. The studio has been designed to be as energy efficient as possible, making the most of natural light and energy efficient lighting solutions. We also source our electricity through a green energy tariff. All the paper and cardboard that we purchase is made from recycled materials – right down to our business cards, which are made from recycled cotton T shirts.
Charities
At CCID, we take our social and ethical responsibilities as a company very seriously. Each year, we support a number of international, national and local charities / causes. In 2020, we committed to donating 10% of any CCID’s gift vouchers purchased to Climate Week, NHS Charities and The Design Museum. All scrap fabric and fabric samples (no longer needed) are donated to local schools and charities to help promote art and encourage creativity amongst children and the wider community. We were also delighted to work with a local school to help with the creation of an art studio for both pupils and the local community.
